One Student Killed and Two Injured in Crash With Tanker Truck
One high school student was killed, and two others were injured in a morning crash near their school. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District confirmed the collision and offered counseling to assist students and others who were affected by the terrible tragedy. The accident happened in Mint Hill, near the intersection of Blair Rd. and Allen Station Drive, which is located about a mile from Rocky River High School, where all three victims were students.
What Caused the Accident?
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. The crash reportedly involved a tanker truck and the passenger vehicle in which the high school students were driving. Police stated that speed was likely a factor; however, more investigation is needed. The tanker truck was parked near the side of the road, possibly making a water delivery. The crash took place before school started.
The student’s vehicle ended up wedged under the truck. All three passengers of the vehicle had to be extricated. The driver, an 18-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two passengers, ages 16 and 17, were transported to the hospital in critical condition. The tanker truck driver was not hurt. A medical helicopter was deployed to the scene to transport severely injured victims to the hospital.

Is That Stretch of Road Safe?
After the accident, some parents expressed concerns over the safety of that stretch of road. Apparently, some vehicles speed or drive recklessly and fail to obey the posted speed limit. The area of the crash is less than a mile from the high school, and many students travel that road to get to and from school. Speeding and reckless driving can make the roads dangerous for those driving as well as for others. Other factors that could contribute to accidents include inclement weather, poor road conditions, and inexperience, among others.

When an accident occurs in North Carolina, the negligent driver is responsible for the injuries and damages that were incurred as a result.
