Multiple Vehicle Crash Involving Garbage Truck Injures Four People
A recent vehicle accident sent four people to the hospital, one in critical condition. The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-85 in Charlotte, near the Beatties Ford exit 37. All southbound lanes of I-85 were shut down for a time immediately following the crash. The accident involved several vehicles, along with a garbage truck. The accident appeared to be extremely serious, leaving one vehicle overturned and another that hit a tree.
The details of what caused this crash have not been released. Three passenger vehicles, along with a large garbage truck, were all part of the accident. One vehicle left the roadway and flipped upside down. Another vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree. Medical personnel were called to the scene and began treating victims. Four victims were transported to the hospital, with at least one of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.
Truck Accidents Are Often Serious
Although we do not know what caused this crash, we do know that accidents with trucks can be extremely dangerous. Garbage and recycling trucks can weigh up to 25 tons when fully loaded. Garbage trucks can also move more slowly on the road, and they may also have reduced driver visibility compared to other vehicles. The driver sits quite a bit above other autos, and there may be some blind spots. These trucks are quite large and sturdy and can render a lot of damage on impact. An investigation is ongoing as to the cause of this crash.
What to Do Following a Car Accident
There are several important things you should do after you are involved in a car accident. Call the police immediately. The police will secure the roadway and take charge of the scene, and an ambulance will provide medical evaluation and transportation to a hospital if needed. Take photos of the accident only if it is safe to do so. It is best to seek medical attention as soon as possible after an accident. Contact the insurance company to report the accident.
An investigation may be needed to determine how the crash happened and identify the negligent driver. Only those who are not negligent can collect compensation after an accident. You will need to keep copies of your medical expenses and any costs that you incurred as a result of your injuries. If the injuries were caused by someone else’s negligence, that driver should provide compensation.
Contact an Experienced Personal Injury Attorney
It is helpful to talk to a knowledgeable personal injury attorney following an accident. Your lawyer will help you navigate the process of working with the insurance company to obtain compensation for your damages. Damages may include medical expenses, lost wages, money for pain and suffering, and more. The negligent party should be required to pay for damages caused by their actions. Many cases are settled before they go to court. However, if the matter does not get resolved, your attorney will represent you through the legal process.
