Car Loses Control, Crashes Into Daycare Playground
A speeding driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a daycare playground. The car sped through the daycare property just after the children left the playground, so there were no reported injuries. The car continued through the playground, flipped, and crashed into a nearby residence. The residence was not occupied at the time. The driver was allegedly speeding and racing with another vehicle when he lost control and veered off the roadway at a high rate of speed.
Two Vehicles Were Allegedly Street Racing
According to witness reports, two vehicles were street racing at the time of the accident. The accident happened on Hickory Grove Road in east Charlotte. This is a busy roadway and neighbors stated that there have been numerous accidents in the same general vicinity in the past. The vehicle crashed into the side of a home on the other side of the street, making a huge hole. Bystanders pulled the driver and passenger out of the car through the sunroof. Both the driver and passenger were transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Neighbors Asked for Traffic Light
After the accident, neighbors said they had repeatedly asked for a traffic light at the intersection. They claim the intersection is hazardous and a traffic signal might prevent future crashes. There is a process in place to request a traffic light. A citizen may submit a new traffic signal request to the City of Charlotte for review. The authorities review requests and study the intersection as well as review prior accidents before they make a decision. A number of new traffic signals have been approved for installation this year thus far.
Why Do Vehicles Go Off the Roadway?
There are many reasons why a vehicle might leave the roadway. Speeding, impairment, and distracted driving are all common reasons why a car might drive off the road. When a car is traveling at a high rate of speed, as in this instance, the results can be devastating. In this case, the children were lucky that they were not playing in the playground when the vehicle came through. The vehicle was traveling very fast and the accident could have caused severe injuries or fatalities. The driver may be cited for infractions, however, we do not know the details.
